What PJM-7210 is really about
The course uses Larson and Gray’s Project Management: The Managerial Process, which balances technical tools, such as work breakdown structures, network schedules and earned value, with the sociocultural side of leading people. Module 1 covers the project manager’s role and how organizations select projects that fit their strategy. Module 2 moves through defining scope, estimating times and costs, building network schedules and managing risk. Module 3 covers resource scheduling, cost budgets, crashing to reduce duration and project leadership. Module 4 addresses teams, progress monitoring with earned value, international projects and closure.
The eight-week format packs a great deal into each module, so students benefit from practicing calculations as they read. Four written assignments draw on end-of-chapter exercises, a comprehensive midterm of five essay questions covers Modules 1 and 2, and a group final project builds a complete plan based on the textbook’s project appendix. Managers who run projects at work can use their own examples to test the methods, especially risk registers and earned value reports.
What PJM-7210’s assessments ask for
Expect four written assignments of selected chapter exercises, worth 24 percent together, six discussions, two synchronous events in Weeks 3 and 7, a midterm essay assignment worth 20 percent and a group final project. Exercises require calculations, such as critical path, slack, crashing costs and earned value indexes, with interpretation. Essay questions ask you to explain and apply concepts such as project selection models, scope statements and risk responses.
Where students lose points in PJM-7210
Students lose points on exercises by giving answers without showing the network, the forward and backward passes or the earned value formulas, and on essays by defining concepts without applying them. Another frequent error is crashing activities that are not on the critical path, or crashing past the point where another path becomes critical. Interpretation matters too: an SPI of 0.92 means little until the answer says what it implies for the finish date and what the manager should do.

PJM-7210 Module 1 assignment example
Exercises 1: a composite Bergen County water authority's capital requests worked through Larson and Gray's selection process, sorting a mandatory lead service line program ($14.4 million for 1,200 lines) from discretionary projects, scoring smart meters, solar canopies and a billing system, and testing them with NPV and payback at 5 percent. PJM-7210 Module 2 assignment example
Midterm essays: five answers grounded in a composite Bergen County water authority's lead service line program, on why strategy should drive selection, a scope statement and deliverable-based WBS for 1,200 replacements, top-down versus bottom-up estimates, a PERT estimate giving about a 97 percent chance of finishing the pilot in 14 weeks, and a risk register with responses. PJM-7210 Module 3 assignment example
Exercises 3: one 150-line neighborhood phase of a composite water authority's lead line program, a 14-week network stretched to 17 weeks when four crews are needed and three exist, a split-crew schedule, a crash decision weighing an $81,000 contractor crew against $45,000 of indirect costs and a December paving shutdown, and the influence a project manager needs without formal authority. PJM-7210 Module 4 assignment example
Final project: an integrated plan for a composite water authority's four-year, $14.4 million lead line program, with charter, deliverable WBS, phased schedule, crews and budget, risk register and Buy America sourcing check, then a week-8 earned value report for the first phase (SPI 0.93, CPI 0.94, estimate at completion about $1.91 million) and a closure plan.
