What ACC-6020 is really about
Jeter and Chaney’s Advanced Accounting is the text, and its nine modules build a consolidation in stages. Modules 1 and 2 introduce business combinations and the allocation of an acquisition price to identifiable assets and goodwill, and Module 3 prepares consolidated statements with a noncontrolling interest. Modules 4 to 6 eliminate intercompany sales of inventory, sales of equipment and holdings of each other’s bonds, each in both directions.
The remaining modules turn to topics that affect many consolidated groups. Module 7 covers foreign currency transactions and the translation of foreign subsidiaries’ statements, Module 8 segment and interim reporting and Module 9 partnerships, from formation to admission of new partners. A final research paper of 10 to 12 pages in APA style completes the course.
What ACC-6020’s assessments ask for
Nine written assignments count 50 percent of the grade, nine discussions add participation and the final research paper counts 30 percent. Expect goodwill computations with noncontrolling interests, allocation schedules, worksheet eliminations, downstream and upstream profit deferrals, constructive bond retirements, exchange gains and translation adjustments, segment tests and partnership profit allocations.
Where students lose points in ACC-6020
Consolidation answers lose points when the parent’s share is confused with the whole, when upstream deferrals are charged only to the parent, when equipment eliminations leave the asset at the buyer’s cost, or when a constructive gain is recognized again in later years. In foreign currency work, the usual error is applying current rates to equity or adjusting inventory for later rate changes.

Full sample paper, read it free.
ACC-6020 Module 6 assignment example
